Willie Duggan to Speak at Light 25 London on the Future of Healthy Lighting Design
We’re delighted to share that Willie Duggan, Director and Lighting Designer at Willie Duggan Lighting, has been invited to speak at Light 25 in London this November. Following his inspiring presentation at IALD Enlighten Europe 2025, Willie’s latest talk — “Out of Our Lane: What Lighting Designers Must Learn from Medicine” — takes the conversation around lighting and health even further.
For decades, the lighting design industry has focused on fixtures, lux levels, and aesthetics. But as medical research on light advances, we’re learning that light is far more than a design tool — it’s a biological force that directly affects our physical and mental wellbeing.

Willie’s upcoming talk at Light 25 challenges lighting professionals to look beyond metrics and materials, and instead draw from the growing field of medical science. Studies now show how light influences circadian rhythms, hormone regulation, and even mitochondrial function — the very core of human health and energy.
In this talk, Willie calls for a new era of collaboration between lighting designers, medical researchers, and scientists. By stepping “out of our lane,” we can bridge design and medicine to create environments that:
- Support circadian balance and sleep quality
- Reduce fatigue and stress
- Enhance productivity and emotional wellbeing
- Promote long-term health and vitality through light
“We’ve become too focused on fixtures and aesthetics,” says Willie Duggan.
“If we engage with medical research, we can design lighting that doesn’t just look good — it actively supports human health.”
If you are in London, feel free to come along, would love to see you there.
