Introducing ‘The Professional Lens’: A New Lighting Design Course with Skillnet Ireland

We are SO excited to launch our new Professional Lighting Design course!

Education has always been at the core of what we do here at Willie Duggan’s, from our Masterclasses for homeowners to our work with universities such as UCL, DIT, as well as industry events. We’ve always believed we could play a role in upskilling the next generation of professionals. With our purpose-built studio in Kilkenny, we feel we are best placed to give a hands-on learning experience. When Skillnet Ireland approached us to collaborate on a new training programme, it felt right!

In the built environment, lighting is more than just a technical element; it shapes how we feel, how we work, and how we connect with the spaces around us. Over the years, we’ve seen a growing need in our industry for professionals to deepen their knowledge of light, not only from a design perspective, but also through the lens of health, well-being, and human experience.

Together, we’ve developed The Professional Lens, a three-month hybrid course designed to empower professionals to design consciously with light. By blending online lectures with immersive in-person workshops, complete with real fittings and a professional darkroom, this programme gives learners both the technical and creative skills they need to elevate their projects.

We’re proud to be working with Skillnet Ireland on this initiative. Their support not only makes the programme possible but also ensures it is accessible, with subsidised places available to meet the clear demand for skills development in our industry.

For us, this isn’t just a course, it’s a chance to strengthen our profession, respond to real industry needs, and create spaces where people can truly thrive. We just love talking about light!
