Willie Duggan Lighting Welcomes the AKA Fringe
It’s been an exciting week at Willie Duggan Lighting as our lighting design studio became part of the AKA Fringe, a celebration of music, theatre, literature, visual art, and performance.
Running from 6th to 16th August, the AKA Fringe Festival presents a vibrant programme of accessible arts and cultural events across Kilkenny. Designed to celebrate creativity and collaboration, the festival provides a platform for local artists, performers, and audiences to connect, strengthening the city’s cultural community and encouraging year-round engagement with the arts.
Our Lighting Design Studio Became a Theatre
On the 8th and 9th of August, Barebones Playwrights transformed our showroom into an intimate theatre space.
Audiences enjoyed six sold-out original plays by Frances Micklem, Dympna Heffernan, Caroline Sutherlands, Gerard Blanch, Antoinette McCarthy, and our very own Helena Duggan, whose name will be familiar to many of our readers!
Watching our lighting design studio evolve into a theatre was a wonderful reminder that thoughtfully designed spaces can inspire creativity in many different ways.
More Than a Lighting Design Studio
Although many people know Willie Duggan Lighting as a lighting design studio and showroom, our space has always been about more than lighting.
Over the years, it has hosted lighting demonstrations, client presentations, educational workshops, co-working space, music video productions, and now live theatre as part of the AKA Fringe Festival.
Every event brings a new perspective and demonstrates how adaptable creative spaces can be.
Celebrating Creativity in Kilkenny
One of the most rewarding parts of opening our studio is seeing it continually evolve. Whether it’s showcasing innovative lighting design or supporting local arts and culture, we love seeing our space inspire creativity and collaboration.
We were honoured to welcome Barebones Playwrights and to play a small part in this year’s Kilkenny Alternative Arts Festival.
